Review on Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis)

ABSTRACT:
Today many diseases affect the human. For treatment of these diseases we use different types chemical based medicines so these medicines sometime exert side-effects on human body. So for avoiding these side-effects we use different herbs which have lot of medicinal property but also have side-effects. So Goldenseal is one of them herb which are used to treat many diseases. But due to improper information about these herb avoid the use. Before use of Goldenseal ii is important to known its proper side-effects and uses.

INTRODUCTION:
Goldenseal is a member of the buttercup or Ranunculaceae family. It is native to rich, moist soils of the Ohio River Valley, West Virginia, the mountains of North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and north to New England and Upstate New York and part of Quebec, Canada.

Constituents:
The active ingredients of goldenseal include isoquinoline alkaloids, such as berberine, canadine and hydrastine. Goldenseal has been reported to contain these alkaloids in the ranges of 1.5-4% hydrastine, 0.5-6% berberine and 2-3% berberastine [1]
CONCLUSION:
From the above review it is concluded that Goldenseal is helpful herb but it also have some side-effects according to it dose quantity. It is very useful in many treatment such as common cold, flu, Urinary tract infection etc but in excess amount it sometime leads to dangerous situations. So before use once consult with physician.
